In the VERY FREAKING FIRST EPISODE of the FilmSnark Podcast, we talk to Matt Barkin the creator of SanFranLand about how he made his comedy webseries Don't Call it Frisco, filmmaking in the bay, weird changes in technology, and the weirdest side hustles we ever had.
Matt also talks about the pitfalls of traditional pilot distribution and marketing something that wasn't originally meant as a web-series. Getting your webseries distributed is hard, and it doesn't always take the path you think it will. This also feeds into the idea that producing a pilot isn't always the best way to get your series out there.
We also talk about how filmmakers often have to make the choice of whether to make money in corporate video or to get a day job and produce creative content on the side. We're taking the pieces we recorded from our first session and we're dropping them as audio only under what we've called season 0. When we fully launch with Season 1, we'll have video.
